June 2005
During May and June, we made three trips to the orphanage.
Our first trip on May 13th was with our friend Jane Schlaack, a hairstylist. Jane cut and styled all of the graduates'
hair and had time for some of the other children as well.

We also took some clothing and school supplies. A Ukrainian woman from Dnepropetrovsk sent some tooth paste and
shampoo for the graduates. Children from this orphanage graduate at 9th grade, not 12th grade. They are normally around 15
years old. Graduates have the most difficulties, so we try to pay more
attention to them. This year we also provided photoalbums for the graduates.

Our second trip was at the end of May for "Last
bell." Last Bell is a traditional ceremony in Ukrainian schools held
on the last day of classes at the end of May. At this time, each
class officially is moved up to the next grade. The ceremony is held
in the courtyard of the school.

Our third trip was at the end of June for 9th
grade graduation. Most of our team was in the US for the summer, so
only Irene and our friend, Stephen with his family, went to
Komarovka. Once again, we sponsored a photographer and printing of
graduation photoalbums.

Stephen's daughters and their Ukrainian friend Oksana gave a small concert to children. This was
the first time the children at the orphanage had heard a violin ensemble play.
